The upper school art program at the Centreville Layton School emphasizes drawing and painting skills using different media. Beginning classes focus on still life, perspective, portraits, figure drawing and landscape. Students work with many different mediums for these assignments including pencil, watercolor and acrylic paint, and charcoal and pastel. Students taking intermediate classes are assigned a class project such as publishing an illustrated literary magazine, photography portfolios and murals in paint and mosaic while developing their drawing and painting skills.
Advanced studio classes are available for those wishing to produce a portfolio to apply to art colleges. Students also enjoy field trips to museums, galleries and artist studios.
